Increasing
muscular strength is the most effective way to increase jump
height, however increasing a muscle’s strength alone is not
sufficient in increasing jump performance. In theory, in
order to increase your jump height by strengthening your
muscles, the neural control of your muscles must also be
modified.
The reason
behind this is that when muscles are strengthened, the
properties of the biomechanical system change and the
previous muscle control pattern is no longer optimal. While
you will still see strength gains and the muscles generate
more force, the force generated is used less efficiently.
